Little Trixie Whitley is all grown up!

I have always been a huge fan of the late Chris Whitley. The man had a sound and writing style that really speaks to me. Joe and I met him once at Hal & Mals in Jackson. He was playing a poorly advertised show with hardly anyone attending. We saw him sitting at a table while the opening act was still playing. We walked over introduced ourselves. For the next few minutes, we spewed on about when his new stuff would be coming out and how even though his tour had been poorly promoted, he was finally making some good money with his music.
The show was amazing. No back up band or frills of any kind. Just him singing, tapping his foot on a wooden platform, playing guitar.
Chris died on November 20, 2005 with lung cancer.

His daughter Trixie Whitley is about to release her first EP. I can't wait! Take a look at this video from a tribute concert.

My Monster Ghost!

I just found this post on Boing Boing. Sure, I loved old ads from comic books, crazy thing is, I actually ordered this Monster Ghost in the 4th grade! I don't remember the comic the ad was in but I remember thinking that was one heck of a good price for a monster over 7 feet tall! This quote from a bummed out purchaser sums it up perfectly
A neighbor and I sent away for the "Monster Ghost".

"Make him obey your commands even when you are secretly hiding as far as 100 feet away"

"A real terror, giant sized---" which, when it arrived, turned out to be...

A white balloon
A white garbage bag
Two glow in the dark circles
A string.

That's what I'm talking about!

That had to hurt!

Remember those little bulls we castrated a couple weeks ago? These are the horns from one of them. Just one more of those farming technics the general public would probably find offensive in some way. I wonder if these would be good to chew on? If you are game, I would be more than happy to watch you try it. We could pretend you're a contestant on Survivor Mississippi and this is an elimination round. (Or was that another crap reality show? I can never keep them straight in my head.)

Here is some info on dehorning if you are interested in learning more about our backwoods culture. Enjoy!
