My big stinking pile

One thing you will never find on this site are posts about what an expert I am. How my grand experiences and education have shown me a better way so that I feel the need to lead others in the right path. Rest assured, you won't find that sort of stuff here. I am NO expert. Today is another shining example.

About two months ago, after reading several articles on composting, I decided, "Man, that is such a cool idea! I'm going to start a compost pile!" "Ok, that is going to be a huge mound of stink!" Trudie said. I assured her I had read all about the subject and I was going to make "Gardener's Gold." How exciting!

Under the cover of night (I don't know why) I found some used shipping pallets at a construction site. I brought them home and followed some instructions I found online. It looked beautiful. Trudie hated it. You had to admit, it was an eye sore. But just think of the greatness it would produce.

Ok, today, it finally hit me. What had been stinking to high heaven for the past 3 days. At first I thought it was the HappyCoop I. It needed a good cleaning, so I got up this morning and scooped it out. No better. I found the source this afternoon. That damn pile of stink.

I ended up bagging the whole thing up and sitting it at the road for the garbage truck. What a stench! What a horrible stench! I even sprinkled Pine Sol on the ground where the pile had been to try and cut the smell it left. I hope all will be better in the morning.

I think from now own, I will just buy "Garden Gold" in a nice tidy bag.

If you had a few more acres that would have worked man. You have to keep compost turned over, watered down, it has to achieve a certain internal temp to cook everything up. When we had the house in Gluckstadt I looked into an above ground drum composting contraption... it looked pretty reasonable... had a drum that you could spin by hand. You might want to look into something like that.
